My buddy, David - over at third world county (not countRy, LOL) - got tagged by Reihl World View , as he says over at Meme-ory Lane. So what does he do? he turns around and tags ME!!!!!
I ask you, is that what a real friend would do? Well, in this case, yes: I like this particular meme. So, here are the rules as I got them from David:
Remove the #1 item from the following list, bump everyone up one place and add your blog's name in the #5 spot. You need to... actually link to each of the blogs for the link-whorage aspect of this fiendish meme-age to kick in.
Next, select four unsuspecting victims, list and link to them.
Ooooooh, who should I pick? Well, I gotta pass this on to some gooood buddies, so here goes:
- Kender, of Kender's Musings - because he's an incredibly interesting nut, with a lot of life experiences to draw from
- Kilo, of Kilo Sparks It Up - a wonderful guy, full of encouragement, also with a lot of life tucked under his belt
- Raven, who writes And Rightly So! - an extremely talented, no-nonsense lady, who has a heart of gold
- Finally, Cao, the blogmistress of Cao's Blog, and the goddess of the Wide Awakes - she's got a shoulder injury, so she may not be able to do this, but she's a fantastic woman who writes in a "no quarter asked, none given" way that is an inspiration to me.
Now, to the meme itself: Five things I miss from my childhood....
1) Lying on my bed at night, looking out the window while a real rip-snorter of a storm roars through my town. The air conditioning units for our house were right below my window, and I could hear them cycle on and off as the thunder boomed and the lightning streaked though the sky. The rain would come pouring down, and I would be snuggled in bed, safe and sound, enjoying the drama.
2) This is sort of a follow-on to number one - the steamy smell of a hot asphalt driveway, just after a brief summer storm has wet it down during a hot, humid day. I can still get that smell, sometimes - but somehow, it just isn't the same. Also, I can't stay out and enjoy it as much as I'd like anymore, since hot/humid and R'cat is a baaaaaad pairing. *sigh*
3) I miss being able to look at my mom and dad and just *know* that they'll be here forever. They're both in their 80's, and I'm in my 40's. I am sadly wiser than I was even twenty years ago, and it's a wisdom I wish no one ever had to grow into.
4) I miss being care free. I miss my greatest worry being what my grades would be. I miss not being able to sleep because tomorrow is Christmas or the first day of vacation. I miss the utter confidence I had that I was safe, and the world was good.
5) Mostly, however, I miss my Memere (pronounced "mem-ay"). She came to us as a babysitter when my older brother was five months old, and she stayed to become family. She was my "grandmother;" I never really knew any other. She was a second mom, she was a sound foundation, she was a loving disciplinarian. She died just about two weeks after I found out I was pregnant with the Darling Munchkin, and I have missed her ever since.
The Munchkin's middle name is Memere's: Emelienne.
