I moved to Virginia in November of 1998, when my husband received PCS orders for duty at COMOPTEVFOR in Norfolk. Our daughter was 2 1/2, my cat was 17, we had a truck, a car, and an RV, plus a whole bunch of other "household goods" the Navy moved for us.
In the 7 1/2 years we've lived here, I've learned a lot (oh, maybe perhaps about 3% of what I ought to *giggle*) about Virginia, and what a beautiful and historical state it is...
Here are some of my favorite things:
Virginia is where I voted in person for the first time ever:
Virginia is where I learned to quilt:
Virginia - especially the county where I now live - is filled with beauty and charm:
Virginia is full of history - and Charlotte Court House, where Patrick Henry gave his last speech, is just around the corner. For that matter, so is Red Hill, his final home.
I also love Virginia because, now that my husband has retired from the Navy and we're living in South Central Virginia, I was able to rip out the "old" kitchen in our house, and install the kitchen I've been dreaming of for the past 10 years:
And, yes, I *do* still need to figure out what I want to do with the backsplash behind the cooktop...
There are so many other things about Virginia that I love, and I'm very glad that Shaun Kenney put this bug in my ear. Of course, I'm a day late from what Shaun originally posted, but then, I see that *HE* is, too, LOLOLOL He's planning on posting a round-up, so make sure you keep checking back for it.
And... I think I need to post more about Virginia - without mentioning politics!
