The empty suit makes empty promises - gee, what a surprise!

Obama is not ready for prime time - what the heck is he doing, spewing this kind of pap?!

Democrat Barack Obama took his presidential campaign today to the region with Virginia’s highest unemployment and vowed to work to improve lives of middle-class workers

“I’m not going to say all of the jobs in Martinsville are going to come back if I’m elected president,” Obama told about 300 invited guests - most of them blue-collar workers - gathered at a community college.

“I’m not saying the schools will be fixed,” he said. “What I’m saying is that I’m going to wake up every morning thinking about you.”

Oh, how sweet! [pauses while everyone coos "Awwww!"] While he's raising our taxes, while he's pandering to terrorists, while he's supporting infanticide, he'll still be thinking about Martinsville every morning. My, that's so... comforting! So... inspiring!

Yeah. Right. You want to know what he's gonna be thinking? He's gonna sit up in bed at the White House every morning, have a good stretch, and think

I can't believe those schmucks actually bought it!

Vote NObama - because if hope ain't teamed with sweat and guts, it's just an empty suit of hot air.

Has the Republican Party found its spine? (UPDATED)

Dear Lord above, I surely hope so!

Michelle Malkin (and here)... Gateway Pundit... Rep. John Culberson's Twitter page...

The Politico:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Democrats adjourned the House and turned off the lights and killed the microphones, but Republicans are still on the floor talking gas prices.

Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and other GOP leaders opposed the motion to adjourn the House, arguing that Pelosi's refusal to schedule a vote allowing offshore drilling is hurting the American economy. They have refused to leave the floor after the adjournment motion passed at 11:23 a.m., and they are busy bashing Pelosi and her fellow Democrats for leaving town for the August recess.

GO, GUYS!!!!

UPDATE: FoxNews has picked it up... Sorta:

The last House vote before a vacation usually sparks a stampede toward the doors and waiting planes. Not so Friday, when Republicans occupied the House floor for a rare, and at times bizarre, protest against Democratic energy policies.

The microphones were off, the House had stopped TV feeds to C-Span and the lights dimmed after the pre-noon vote to adjourn for the August recess. That didn't deter Republicans, who one after another rose to demand that Congress stay in session until it does something about high gas prices.

Unlike a normal session where the rules of decorum are strictly enforced, GOP lawmakers and their aides who filled the chamber clapped, chanted, gave standing ovations and booed the Democrats.

UPDATE 2.0: And Hot Air has video (from yesterday) about what the DemocRATs are going to do about rising gas prices... NOTHING, not even if gas reaches $10 per gallon. Like Hot Air says:

Republicans should use a very simple message. We have enough oil to satisfy American needs for at least the next 100 years, but Democrats won’t let you have it. They’d rather you pay $10 per gallon at the pump and watch food prices increase 250% rather than agree to drilling. If you don’t want $10 per gallon gas, vote Republican.

And then make sure the Republicans STICK TO THEIR GUNS and return to their small-government/low-taxes foundation!

He's come from nowhere, he's done nothing...

...and with a prideful, arrogant attitude like this, you think I'd ever consider voting for him?

NObama '08... Obamination '08...

No. *blinkin'* WAY!

Kudos to the McCain campaign for hitting this one out of the ball park!

I'll spend my own money, thankyouverymuch

Good boy! Glad to see you express these sentiments, President Bush:

As Cassy Fiano, over at Wizbang, says:

This sums up, in a nutshell, the difference between Republicans and Democrats. Republicans usually believe that Americans are smart enough to run their own lives; Democrats don't. Republicans usually think that Americans deserve to keep their own money; Democrats don't. Republicans usually think that Americans will lead their lives perfectly fine without government intervention; Democrats don't.

Which is why, although I'm disenchanted with the majority of Republicans in office these days, I could never, ever, EVER be a nanny-state-we-know-better-than-you-give-us-your-money-so-the-government-can-help-you DemocRAT.

The Republican Platform Committee

...apparently has a new site where they're

...seeking your input as we develop the policies and principles upon which we should stand for the next four years. On this website, you can share your thoughts, participate in polls, and communicate directly with the policymakers who will be shaping the party's agenda. All comments and feedback will be reviewed and taken into full consideration as we prepare for our convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Uh-huh.

Dudes, let me put it this way: After four (I'm being kind) years of ignoring your base, irresponsible spending, endorsing government bloat, providing examples of poor character, pandering to illegal immigrants, waffling on national defense, refusing to repudiate earmarks, and surrendering your pale and pasty underbellies to the DemoRATS, do you really think that *I'll* believe you're going to listen to me three (whups, OK, FOUR) months before the general election????

You really do think we're idiots, don't you?

Ive already said that I'm not a Republican anymore, although I will modify that post to state that I'm a Conservative Christian rather than a Christian Conservative (with a nod to Jim Bowden for the proper emphasis). The traditional foundations of the Republican Party are worthy of my support and admiration - it's just that I don't see many Republicans actually following them anymore.

In case you missed it, I don't believe you, and I don't believe you're going to actually listen to the people who are the heart of the party. When I see you actually promoting and pursuing small government, low taxes, fiscal responsibility, personal integrity, and American sovereignty, then we can talk.

But until then, you can park it where the sun don't shine - and if you think that's rude, well, go on over to Misha's place and read a bit. You'll realize that I'm being very gracious.

Thatisall.

Jeffersoniad hosts hospitality suite at Convention

And, darn it, I won't be able to be there!!!

Anyway, this Friday, 30 May, the Jeffersoniad will be hosting a hospitality suite in room B19 at the Richmond Convention Center from 9 p.m to 1 a.m (wow, I never knew I'd hooked up with such a bunch of partying night owls, LOL!). Our sponsors are Speaker William J.. Howell and Rhumb Line, a firm which offers strategic and tactical advice in government affairs. I believe our suite will be serving desserts and coffee, so make sure to stop by and indulge your sweet tooth!

I believe that my blog brothers Shaun and Jason will be there, and I know Jim Hoeft will be as well - he's saying something about a three headed blog monster, but I haven't seen pictures of it yet. Ah, well, perhaps Jim will post one of the monster eating Ben Tribbitt...

Nah, he'd probably give it a severe case of indigestion and gas!

Sen. Kennedy diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor

... and it's survival rate is only 1 to 5 years. [headdesk]

Malignant gliomas are a type of brain cancer diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year — and the most common type among adults. It's an initial diagnosis: How well patients fare depends on what specific tumor type is determined by further testing.

Average survival can range from less than a year for very advanced and aggressive types — such as glioblastomas — or to about five years for different types that are slower growing.

News of the diagnosis hit hard for colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

Well. I will have to step up my prayers. Like one of the commenters at Little Green Footballs said, "I have always wanted him to be out of our Government, but this is never the way I had wanted it to happen. I hope the best for him and his family at what must be a horribly difficult time."

I would also like to note, for the benefit of the Kossacks and their ilk, that, for all they vilify LGF and other right-leaning sites and people for being "mean and hateful," the LGF comment thread was well over 300 when I read through, and only three or four had had to be deleted. The rest were overwhelmingly supportive, wishing the Senator and his family well, and offering up prayers for strength and healing.

I doubt that would happen if President Bush had been so stricken.
