The Curse and the Gift

Romans 5:12-19 discusses the contrast between the consequences of Adam's sin and the blessings of Christ's obedience... This is my meditation on it for Sunday Thoughts with Kat, broadcast on Wide Awakes Radio on 14 January, 2007...

How does God speak to us?

... and why would He want to?

Today on Sunday Thoughts with Kat on Wide Awakes Radio, Pat Robertson gives me an opportunity to discuss how God speaks to us and some of His reasons for doing so.

So join me today at 4:30 pm Eastern (1:30 pm Pacific), and let's go into God's Word and hear what He has to say to us ;-)

Today's Bible Readings

Our reading selections for today are Genesis 13 and 14, Psalm 4:4-8, Proverbs 2:1-5, and Matthew 6:1-18.

I will be on Wide Awakes Radio later today (4:40 pm, ET; 1:30 pm, PT), so I won't post a meditation on these scriptures, but you can check back later this afternoon for an mp3 file of my talk.

May God bless you on this Lord's Day. May He give you rest and refreshment, and may you sit under the instruction of His Word and be blessed!

New Year's Eve message from Kat

"Joy to the World" and the "Hallelujah Chorus" are not JUST Christmas songs... They are reminders that, just as Christ was born in a manger, 2000 years ago, He will return...

So..  What are you going to do about it?

Have a listen, and at least tell me how my voice is! ;-)

Best blessings for a joyous, safe, and prosperous New Year to all my friends and readers. May God show Himself mighty in your life, and may you give Him the glory and rejoice in His generosity!

2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become NEW!" (emphasis mine)

The King is coming!

Joy to the world, the Lord is come,
Let Earth receive her King!

Hallelujah!
The kingdom of this world is become
the Kingdom of our Lord
and of His Christ!!

Wait... Waitwaitwait!

Kat! Chrismas is over! Why are you still singing Christmas songs?

Well... Because these aren't really "Christmas" songs - and because they have a very important message for us, particularly for this last day of 2006.

Please tune in to Sunday Thoughts with Kat on Wide Awakes Radio, today at 4:30pm ET, 1:30pm PT, for an important reminder of coming events - and what our top prioity ought to be for the next year, and every year after.

Thanksgiving prepares us for the Greatest Gift of all

Now that December is here, the theme for Sunday Thoughts with Kat on Wide Awakes Radio will be the gratitude we owe to God to the glorious gift He gave us in Christ Jesus.

Today, I spoke about the gift of Christ's humble birth - the modesty and simplicity of His coming.

I start with some of the lyrics from "Manger Throne," from City on a Hill: It's Christmastime, sung by Mac Powell of Third Day (one of my favorite Christian groups - southern rock glorifying Christ!):

What kind of King would leave His throne
in Heaven to make this earth His home?
While men seek fame and great renown,
in lowliness our King comes down.

Chorus:
Jesus, Jesus, precious Lord,
How we thank You that You've come!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Lord,
A manger throne for God's own Son!

You left the sound of angels' praise
to come for men with unkind ways
and [bowed] this baby's helplessness (????) [this one didn't make sense when I was transcribing it]
the power of nations is laid to rest

Chorus

What kind of King would come so small
from glory to a humble stall?
That dirty manger is my heart, too
I'll make it a royal throne for You!

Chorus

My heart is a throne for God's own Son!

And here's what I said today (mp3 download).

Sunday Thoughts on WideAwakes Radio tomorrow!

I invite you all to join me on WideAwakes Radio tomorrow at 4:30 pm, ET (1:30 pm, PT), for Sunday Thoughts with Kat. I'll be discussing Romans 5:6-9, and I think you'll find it very thought-provoking. To listen in, you can go down on my right hand column, and click on the WideAwakes Radio microphone...

Here's a "practice run" of what I'll be saying (.wma file).

So, get your Bible ready and listen in!

*snerk* Clueless, simply clueless...

Via the Emperor, I get to hear this clip of cluelessness that Kender found.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Oh, and make sure you listen to all of it: it's good to the last drop! *snicker*

Ooops: BTW, for an overview of the guy they're really asking about in that clip, you could do no better than to read Dafydd ab Hugh's riviting biography. Seriously. ;-)

Crises of Faith in Gethsemane

Initial thoughts from a conversation with Sonnabend. He was suggesting that I use one of my Sunday Thoughts programs on Wide Awakes Radio (my show "airs" on Sundays at 4:30pm ET, 1:30PM PT) to speak about what happens when reality smacks you in your face. How does your faith function; how do you get through a crisis of faith?

As you may know, I'm working on memorizing Romans, chapters 5-8, and also using the verses I memorize each week as a starting point for my Sunday Thoughts program. Last week, I started this series intending to discuss Romans 5:1-5, but ended up concentrating on the first two verses.

I really didn't want to skip vv 3-5, because they are awesome, and Sonnabend's topic suddenly seemed to puzzle-piece in quite nicely.

WARNING: it's just my initial unrehearsed and poorly researched "draft" if you will ... So, be gentle! *wink* I am going to be doing more research, fleshing this out and polishing it up, but it looks like this will be my outline for Sunday.

However, constructive feedback is more than welcome!

This weekend on Sunday Thoughts: Romans 5:1-5

This Sunday, please join me on Wide Awakes Radio for a study in Romans 5. I am currently endeavoring to memorize Romans, chapters 5 through 8, and my focus over the next several weeks will be the thoughts and discoveries God shows me in these chapters.

All week, I've been wrestling with chapter 5, verses 1 through 5:

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

and God has been seriously kicking my poor, sore rear end (um, can I say that? LOL) and showing me a lot of excellent applications for my life and my attitude. Here's a taste of what I have so far:

One thing we can take away from this is that, whatever we **feeeeeeellll**, the FACT is that God says His children stand in His grace continually. So, we shouldn't whine and moan about how we "don't feeeeel the touch of His grace!" God's Word says we are there already, and that we will remain there.

Therefore, the problem is not with God, it's with us. We need to change our thoughts, change our attitudes, and eventually change our emotions to align with God's Word. We STAND in His grace, so let's start acting like it!

(for this snippit, go here)

See? He's really working me over this week... Actually, at the moment, I'm not certain I'll even get past verses 1 and 2, because He's teaching me so much right here.

(UPDATE: Yep. I was right - I'm staying in verses 1 and 2 this week, but I HAVE been good and memorized vv. 1-5... and there's a LOT of excellent goodness in these two verses.)

So join me this Sunday, 4:30 p.m. Eastern, 1:30 p.m. Pacific, and find out if what God is teaching me can help and encourage YOU, as well!

Perdition to our enemies!

And welcome to the Blogosphere!

A dear friend from Down Under - who has a show on Wide Awakes Radio on Saturdays from 3-5pm, ET - is finally up and blogging.

Didgeman called in on Sunday to talk to Terry Dillard and me on Terry and Cao's show (5-7 pm, ET, on Sundays) and we all had a fantastic talk about 9-11. Didge (and yeah, I know his name, but I don't know if he's gonna use that or a pen name, so I'm using his blog moniker) had a lot to say, and he said it eloquently.

So, please go over and welcome the Voice of the Pacific to the blogosphere, and read and savor his premiere post.

It is not enough to say that the world has changed..and that some claim it is no longer possible to win.It is not right to deny that it is possible to defeat this enemy..to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory..to walk away from the sacrifice of our sons and our daughters in uniform…who will willingly and unselfishly walk into the fire to keep us safe.

Let it never be said that the United States stared into the face of evil and looked away, afraid. Let it never be written that when the call to arms was sounded…the US was not ready, weapon in hand, to stand and fight to the death.

We did not ask for this war…we did not want it…we would sooner turn to pursuits of peace, of art, of culture, than to again see bodies in the streets, or hear the crackle of weapons fire..and then to stand at a wall of black onyx, reading again and again the names of those who fell to protect the way of life we cherish so greatly.

That's how it begins... now go READ IT!!!

Sunday Thoughts: Lord, I'm tired!

Here is another transcript of one of my Sunday Thoughts shows on Wide Awakes Radio. This one aired on the 23rd of July, I think. Of course, the actual show doesn't follow this transcript exactly, but it's pretty close.

So, I hope you read and enjoy it!

Thank you so much for tuning in again today to "Sunday Thoughts with Kat." Today, we're going to talk a little bit about being tired and frustrated with all the busyness of our lives, and one of the main things God wants us to do about it.

I'd like to tell you about a friend of mine named Jody. I met her through my association with the Ladies of the Cotillion, but I've never met her in person. Just recently, she started a new blog with her friend Wendy, called GodDivas. Her first post, "the Thought" has this wonderful paragraph:

"First of all, you don't have a random 'higher power'. You have a father, a comforter, a redeemer, a merciful God and a friend to help you. Jesus is not just an abstract thought. Second of all, even if you pray to Jesus 25 hours a day or fast 8 days a week, you're not guaranteed anything but His love and mercy. So yes, everything will eventually be great in heaven. But that certainly doesn't mean there won't be a storm or two or an entire Florida Hurricane season in your path or in your daughter's path. Just know you've got God to hold on to and for Him to hold you when things get rough. And that's where your faith needs to be. Not in your 'instincts' or abilities as a parent but in Him and knowing that whatever you go through and whatever (your daughter) goes through, He will still be there."

Fantastic - Jody gets it! In all the turmoil and upheaval of our lives, we have a God Who is personal and caring, Who wants us to cast all our cares upon Him, because He cares for us.

So, before we begin, let us open in prayer:

Dear Father, we come before You today in worship and thanksgiving for Your love and mercy and grace. We know that You are a very present help in trouble, that You are our Rock and our Fortress amid life's turmoil. You are El-Shalom, the Lord our peace - and You bring the peace which passes all understanding. Help us, Lord, to abide in You and take Your strength for our lives. Help us, I pray, be still before You and listen for Your still, small voice.

Father, I pray yet again, that You open ears only to the Words that are true and right and according to Your Word. Remove my mistakes from the listeners' ears, so that You may be glorified in Spirit and in truth. And I pray with all humility that

... the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer. Amen!

Onward, Christian Soldiers!

I haven't been posting on the war in Israel because, frankly, I really don't want to descend into a frenzy of irate swearing over the idiocy and insanity of those who would blame Israel for all the shed blood.

And then, last night's news of the thwarted plot to destroy up to 10 planes flying between the UK and the US broke...

*sigh*

So, this week's Sunday Thoughts with Kat is a call to my brothers and sisters in Christ:

"Onward, Christian Soldiers, marching as to war; with the Cross of Jesus, going on before." So an old, old hymn calls Christians to war. However, this war is not like the Jihad of the Muslims, it is not the scuffles between families, it is not the plots of intrigue in governments. It is the true Holy War - and it is time for all Christians to enlist and get into basic training.

We have been at war since the beginning of Creation. It's time - and past time - to get serious.

That's how I'm starting. I hope God gives me the words and the passion to drive the point home.

So make sure you tune in to Wide Awakes Radio on Sunday (4:30 p.m. ET, and 1:30 p.m. PT), and hear what I have to say.

Sunday Thoughts - Premiere transcript

This is a basic transcript from the premiere Sunday THoughts netcast from the 16th of July. I wanted to give a basic statement of my faith and doctrine so that my listeners would know where I stood.

A good friend, ExPreacherMan - who is a retired preacher - and I e-mailed back and forth a bit about this netcast. He gave me the very gracious benefit of many years of experience in the ministry and preaching the Gospel. He pointed out some deficiencies and vague points, and I hope to use his guidace to improve my talks.

Although ExPreacherMan and I are not in exact and perfect agreement with some aspects of doctrine, I am so greatful that he and his Lady Wife have taken the time and effort to offer their experience and understanding. I cannot say hw much I apppreciate their care and concern, and their help in clarifying my thoughts and refining my arguments.

In spite of all this, I post the transcript (from which I read - it may not match perfectly with the actual recorded program) as-is, and invite comment and discussion.

How cool is THIS??? (Fixed and bumped)

Rick Ottaiano has scored a major coup! He will be interviewing Robert Spenser tomorrow - oops! I got the date wrong - Robert Spenser will be on with Ric on Tuesday, 01 August at 11 a.m (um, that's Eastern time - 8 a.m. Pacific...) - on Wide Awakes Radio.

Mr. Spenser is the go-to guy for information on real Islam. He wrote the book The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades), he's got two excellent anti-dhimmi sites, Jihad Watch and Dhimmi Watch, and the nutcase Muslims really hate him.

So make sure you tune in to Wide Awakes Radio tomorrow Tuesday, 01 August morning at 11 a.m. (ET), 8 a.m. (PT), and listen to what is going to be a fascinating interview!

(Thanks for letting me know, Ric - color me so embarrassed, LOL)

The one, the ONLY Jack Idema will be on LIVE in just ten minutes!

(This offer expires at noon, ET... But Jack will be back next Monday, same WAR time, same WAR channel!)

"Sunday Thoughts" premieres today on Wide Awakes Radio!

"Sunday Thoughts" has its first airing today on Wide Awakes Radio at 4:30pm, ET (3:30 CT, and 1:30 PT).

Today, I'll be talking a bit about my doctrine, using the Nicene Creed as an outline. This one is going to be a it heavy, but I believe that my listeners need to know where I stand. Future "Sunday Thoughts" will be a bit lighter in tone, generally speaking

So don't forget to tune in for my first show!

I won't be on live, so if you have any questions or comments, I encourage you to e-mail me at cathousechat -AT- gmail -DOT- com.

Next week, I'm planning to discuss the tiredness we often feel in the midst of our rat-race-crazy lives. Of course, God may have other ideas He wants me to talk about, so if He wants to change the schedule, I'm gonna listen to Him!

Re-launch!

Wide Awakes Radio re-launches tomorrow!

Our new server is installed, and we're ready to ROCK THE HOUSE!!!!

I believe Kender is setting up a varied schedule, so that those hosts who weren't able to chime in on the Fourth will be introducing themselves tomorrow. I really hope Misha can call in, because he's going to be brilliant "on air."

I won't be on the air, since we're doing an RV trip, but if I have connectivity on my cell phone, I'll try to call in and say "Hi" to everyone real quick. Also, I won't reactivate the "Listen Live" button in my sidebar until I get back on Monday, but I will put it in this post so you can use it to stream the audio.

Just remember - it won't be live until tomorrow at 9am ET!!!

"One man left to tell the story..."

Yesterday when I was "on air" with Cao and Terry, I mentioned the fact that my father had stood at the foot of Ens. George Gay's bed, while Ens. Gay debriefed Dad's C.O. Mr. Gay was the sole survivor of Torpedo Squadron 8, at the Battle of Midway.

I couldn't remember the Ensign's squadron at the time, but that was fortunate. Very soon after I got off the air, I recieved an e-mail which gave me the needed info, and continued:

I first heard of him, from all places- In a poem on the wall of the Tribune Tower- while replacing the decking of one of the towers. Let me see if I can dig it up.

How delightful! I e-mailed our listener back and asked him to send me a copy of that poem if he had the time and opportunity. Today, my friend L.S. Mope, Imperial Liaison Officer, Imperial Pork Purveyor, and Master Infidel, has dug up a copy with the assistance of John Dewey of the Tribune Properties.

My deepest gratitude goes out to both men, and I reproduce it here in its entirety:

Victory at Midway

One man left to tell the story
Of Torpedo Squadron Eight
Splendid story of the glory
Of a rendezvous with fate.

Fifteen planes with thirty heroes!
(Twenty-nine were doomed to die.)
Plunging though a cloud of Zeros
Down the danger-ridden sky.

Twenty-nine, with proud devotion,
Ere the fatal flight was done
Vanished in the hungry ocean -
But the victory was won!

One man left to tell the story
Of a rendezvous with fate -
Tell the story of the glory
Of Torpedo Squadron Eight.

- Delos Avery

I don't know the circumstances which led to this poem being chiseled into the walls of the Tribune Tower - and I'm assuming it's this Tribune Tower in Chicago - but I am so glad that it was.

What have we become today, that there are no verses, no monuments, no visible honor given to the many, many heroes and heroines who so selflessly serve this country today?

Thank you, L. S. Mope, for putting another facet on the diamonds in my Father's memory!

Well, like I said...

WHAT-A-RUSH! and HO-ly COW!!!

Yesterday was a day full of excitement, promise, a bit of frustration, and a sense of... delighted bemusement...?

HO-ly COW!!!!

Actual traffic for our first day FAR exceeded Wide Awakes Radio projections...

THANK YOU!!!!

However, that means that our temporary server is a bit, um, steamy. Folks, it's smoking! You guys sent us so much support and traffic and interest that... Baby, the server just couldn't keep UP!!

So! The proper server for Wide Awakes Radio is scheduled to be installed Friday, (UPDATE: and active Saturday) (and yikes! UPDATE yet again: this is the proper post that ought to be linked for info) and from what I understand it's possible that we'll be down until that server is activated. I could be wrong, and I'll keep you updated...

But, WOW!!!! Your support and interest made this happen, and we'll be back as soon as God gives us the path.

Which - if I know Kender (which I *DO*) - just might possibly (not probably... just POSSIBLY!) be tomorrow... ;-) (Yep... I'm an optimist, and have boundless faith in our stupendous staff!)

WHAT-A-RUSH!!!!!!

I just got off my first session as a "live" host - On Air Talent - on Wide Awakes Radio. Cao and Terry Dillard were on with me, and right at the end, we got a quick check in with JACK IDEMA!

It was fun, we had a great exchange - Israel, Discovery, our beloved and honored troops - and I am charged UP!!!

Gee. Maybe I can do LIVE radio, after all ;-)

July 03, 2006

*sigh* I don't think I'm cut out for LIVE radio... (UPDATED)

The past few days, the Wide Awakes Radio talent and staff has been testing out the live stream. I was on-line "helping" Kender and Real Teen tweak the system a bit yesterday, and was unexpectedly given the opportunity to go solo.

Yikes!

I blathered.

Note to the Powers That Be: Do NOT let Kat go solo without extensive preparation!

This is why my show, "Sunday Thoughts with Kat," will not be "live." I tend to go off on tangents, lose my train of thought, and meander all over the place while totally losing the point - when speaking solo and off the cuff. I'm going to be writing out my "Sunday Thoughts" programs, because that way I can gather my thoughts and make a coherent point.

Real Teen jumped in near the end (for which I am profoundly greatful!), and asked a specific question and got me back on track, so I suppose I'd do all right in an interview. (Which reminds me, he asked a very good question about, um, "expressiveness" in church services ;-) I think that may be a good topic for my second show!)

*sigh*

Well, I suppose I can only get better, LOL!

So, tomorrow's the launch, Kender will fire this puppy up, and Wide Awakes Radio is gonna rock 'n' ROLL!!

This is a WAR you don't want to miss!

Crossposted at Wide Awakes Radio

Update: Here's an mp3 file of my voice. Since Kender was so gracious to give that lovely compliment in the comments, I thought I'd give y'all a chance to judge for yourselves.

June 30, 2006

Less than a week, now..

... and Wide Awakes Radio will be unleashed on a world of complacent conservatives and lax liberals.

July Fourth, 2006, Wide Awakes Radio premiers on streaming broadband, starting from 9 a.m. Eastern Time (6 a.m. Pacific). Come join us for real, honest, grassroots conservatism which will blow the socks off the talking heads in the Legacy Media! Clear some time on Independence Day and give us a call at 888-407-1776 - that's 8-8-8-the Fourth of July, 1776 - and celebrate the return of the voice of Real America.

Emperor Misha, Rick Moran, GM Roper, Kit and Heidi from Euphoric Reality, the Uncooperative Blogger, Gribbit and Cracker from Total Kaos, and so many more! Go on and browse through the blogroll on my right margin: we have a great line up of On Air Talents.

I'll be hosting Sunday Thoughts with Kat every Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. Pacific), and I hope you will join me for meditations in the Bible to give you thought and encouragement and a seed of peace to carry you through the week.

Wide Awakes Radio is starting to get noticed in the blogosphere, thanks to Red Satellites, and Sneakeasy's Joint (thanks, guys!), and soon the Winds of WAR will sweep in and shake things up.

This is one WAR you don't want to miss!

UPDATE: and now Radioactive Liberty chimes in, bless him.

June 06, 2006

Less than thirty days...

... and Wide Awakes Radio will launch!

On July 4th, 2006, Wide Awakes Radio will launch with a full schedule of conservative commentators and hosts - we have some incredibly talented and prominent bloggers on board, and I'm sure you will find them both informative and entertaining. The website itself is down (as of this writing) for further development and tweaking, but make sure you check in occasionally as we come closer to Launch.

Who's going to be on? Well, how about Rick Moran of Rightwing Nuthouse, Ric Ottiano of Release the Hounds, Emperor Misha I of the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler, Cao of Cao's Blog, Pamela of Atlas Shrugs, Kit and Heidi from Euphoric Reality, Peter Porcupine, Real Teen of Right on the Right, Ms. Underestimated, Ogre of Ogre's View, Stop the ACLU, GM of GM's Corner, Gribbit of Gribbit's World (who will also team up with Cracker for Total Kaos Radio - which ought to be outstanding!), basil of Basil's Blog, Gateway Pundit, Wild Bill of the Passionate American, the Uncooperative Blogger, Jake and Michelle of Freedom Folks, and the Part-Time Pundit.

Of course, Kender of Kender's Musings is our ClueBatter-in-Chief, and he's also managed to sign on a special treat: Jack Idema, broadcasting from jail in Afghanistan! Unfortunately, I have not - to my shame - been keeping up with all that is Jack Idema, so I suggest you go over to Cao's Blog since she's the go-to woman for all things Jack. She'll be able to bring you completely up to speed on this hero who has been unjustly incarcerated.

So, there you have it: all the bloggers (currently) who are on-line for this wonderful...

What, me?

Oh, yes! I'll be on as well - my show, Sunday Thoughts with Kat, will be "aired" on Sundays from 4:30 to 5 pm, ET. I hope you will join me for some musings and meditations in the Bible, and that it will give you encouragement throughout the week!

Wide Awakes Radio is coming... watch for it!

Kender, the encourager

I just wanted to post something quick to say "Thank you!" to my blog-brother, Kender.

Kender has been a mainstay of the Wide Awakes, and he's moved Heaven and Earth to set up Wide Awakes Radio, despite what's happening in his own life with his health and other issues. He has called ME on a regular basis to encourage me and chat with me, all while dealing with what's going on in his own life.

I know that he's doing the same with many other people, and that he's a huge blessing in many MANY people's lives.

And so, I want to give a shout-out and much love to a man who is an example of courage, determination, optimism, and joy:

my beloved blog-brother, KENDER, the Robin Goodfellow of the blogosphere, a joy in *my* life, and a Gentleman sans peur et sans reproche.

God bless you, Kender - 'cause you've been a wonderful blessing to me!

Love you, crazy man, and - Lord willing - we'll meet in person soon!

May 11, 2006

I'm going to WAR

WAR is coming, and I'm joining up.

Wide Awakes Radio will be debuting on July the Fourth, 2006!

I've been blessed with a spot on Sundays - "Sunday Thoughts with Kat" - somewhere in the 4-5 p.m.-ish slot, east cost time. Initially, I'm planning on only 15 minutes, but there's room for expansion, especially if I figure out the copyright issues with some of the more popular artists I'd like to feature.

NO, it's not going to be a Contemporary Christian Music station for my time, but I'd like the option of playing a song or two that really said something to my soul that week.*sigh* We'll see how it works out. I'm not planning on playing music until I get my timing figured out, anyway.

NEVERTHELESS!!!

WAR is coming... WAR - the Voice of Conservatives!

Enlist now; patriotism looks good on you!
